The long journey home

We all slept in this morning until 8:00am and then packed up the rest of our belongings into the van before heading to an all-you-can-eat breakfast bar down the road before hitting the road.  The fires down the road have been extinguished, so its much calmer this morning.

We had to say "goodbye" to our resident Great Blue Herring, who is raising her two young fledglings in the tree right behind us.  We've been watching her from our back patio for a week now, flying in and out of the nest and caring for her two babies.

In this photo there are three leggy-looking pines.  Look at the middle one, and about halfway up and a little right of center you'll see a bird shadow.  This is mother herring, getting ready to feed her babies.  (Much harder to capture on camera than to see with our own eyes.)  To see them and to hear them squak and chirp and to observe their natural behaviors around the clock was quite interesting.  We enjoyed that a lot.

Goodbye, sunny Florida, and hello again Georgia, Tennessee, and Kentucky!
